Special Interest Groups

The special interest group in Neuropsychological Rehabilitation

Committee:
Barbara A Wilson (chair) UK, Pam Enderby UK, Tamara Ownsworth Australia, Jennie Ponsford Australia, Don Stein USA, Robyn Tate Australia

Purpose
This special interest group is primarily (but not exclusively) for neuropsychologists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists interested in the rehabilitation of people with cognitive, emotional, psychosocial and behavioural deficits caused by an insult to the brain. We also encourage links between theory and practice.

History of the group
The first meeting was held after the International Neuropsychological Society meeting in Brisbane. The second meeting was in Galway, Ireland after the INS in Dublin in 2005. The 4th meeting was held in Lichtenstein where it was decided to form a Neuropsychology Special Interest Group under the WFNR umbrella.

In 2007, after the INS in Bilbao we held our fourth satellite meeting and the first as part of the WFNR. This was our largest meeting to date with 202 registrants and considerable attention from the local media.

In 2008, after the INS in Buenos Aires, the satellite meeting will be held in Iguazu Falls on the border between Argentina and Brazil. Teresa Torralva and Gerhard Müller will be the organisers and Robyn Tate, the programme chair: www.koenigundmueller.de/pdf/kurs/FB080707A.pdf

Benefits of joining this new group
To facilitate and strengthen communication and collaboration between researchers and clinicians by: disseminating international research practices and evidence-base concerning NR and

Promoting interdisciplinary and cross-cultural partnerships. This will bridge the gap between theory, research and clinical applications in neuropsychological rehabilitation; enhance the status and recognition of neuropsychological rehabilitation as a science and discipline in neuropsychology and improve global rehabilitation practices and outcomes
